I used to think that our final exam in EDS Theories of Learning is a summative assessment; a culminating exam that will showcase the pool of learning we learned from the subject.
After a week or so, I read a message from our Teacher Malou giving us a chance to improve our grades. I liked and admired her more because of it. I never thought a final exam could still be a formative assessment. Students were given feedbacks and were guided in such a way that they have room to metacognize, analyze and realize what they should already have.
In the end, what was supposed to be a simple summative assessment became formative assessment, giving us students the chance to improve our knowledge through correcting misconceptions and the like.
